Tasks — work that isn't a one-liner
A task in Kordox has its own page. Real work has a brief, a few moving parts, people waiting on it and something it is waiting for, so a title and a checkbox were never going to be enough.
The task page
Every task lives at its own address — /tasks/<id> — so you can link to it from anywhere: an email, a doc, a Triage item, a message to a colleague. Copy link at the top right of the page puts that address on your clipboard.
The Tasks list and My Work open a task in a side panel for a quick look. To get the full page, click the task's title.
The brief
The description is the same block editor as Docs: type / on an empty line for headings, lists, tables, callouts, code, images and file attachments. Write the brief where the work is, rather than in a doc that has to be found later.
Subtasks and checklists
They are not the same thing, on purpose:
- A checklist in the description is a note to yourself. Nobody is assigned, nothing reports on it.
- A subtask is work. It has its own row, it can be ticked off, and it counts towards the task's progress bar.
If you have written a checklist and it turns out to be real work, Kordox offers to add those lines as subtasks rather than making you retype them.
What a task is waiting on
The Dependencies section on the task page has two halves: what this task is blocked by, and what is blocked by it. Add a blocker by searching for it. Kordox refuses to create a cycle.
This matters because a blocked task and a task nobody has started look identical on a board. Now they don't.
Properties
Down the side: assignee, venture, status, priority, due and start dates, tags, reminders, and any custom fields your venture's task type defines.
Effort is an estimate in minutes, and it sits next to the time actually logged. Once you are over the estimate, the bar turns red.
Linking a task to a client
A task can point at a record — a client, a lead, a deal. Use the link control in the task's properties and search for the record.
On the client's own page, the tasks pointing at that client appear under Missions. That is the same thing seen from the other side: a "mission" is simply a task linked to that client. Clicking one opens its task page.
Keyboard
On My Work, you can work through a queue without reaching for the mouse:
| Key | What it does |
|---|---|
| J / ↓ | Next task |
| K / ↑ | Previous task |
| Space | Peek at the task under the cursor |
| Enter | Open its full page |
| Esc | Close the peek |
With a peek open, J and K move the peek itself — you never have to close and reopen a panel to get to the next item. The shortcuts stay out of the way while you are typing.
Discussion and watchers
Each task has a comment thread. Anyone watching the task is notified when a comment is posted, so a conversation does not depend on people remembering to check.
